You learn a lot about verbal and mental abuse, which can be disturbing. These girls want so much to be accepted and loved by their father, and will do what it takes not only to gain his love, but to survive.

This book takes place mainly in Evanston, Illinois which further reinforces the idea that the abuse portrayed could happen to any student. The author writes, "my chest felt like a hardened clump of clay being pierced by something sharper than sadness and duller then anger." Yes, it even hurt to read this book at times, but it is worth it. If you prefer fiction, also try The Rules of Survival by Werlin.
